Industrial Commission
The job of the Industrial Commission is to maintain contact with existing industry within the city to ensure industrial needs are met and problems addressed. It also seeks to develop and bring in new industry to locate in the city’s industrial park, located on the southeast edge of Flora.
The Industrial Commission has expanded its job to include the mission of increasing Flora’s housing market to meet the need of its industries and citizens. One activity of the Industrial Commission is the administration, including making recommendations to City Council, of the USDA Intermediary Relending Program (IRP). This program is established to provide financial assistance to new or expanding businesses and community development projects in Flora and to secure public benefit for the residents of Flora by developing a stronger economic base and expanding job opportunities.
The Flora Industrial Commission is proud to announce that we have full-service fiber throughout our Industrial Park at speeds of 1Gbps. This high quality fiber connectivity is a luxury most rural Illinois Communities do not have access to. The City of Flora is excited to have this capacity to offer to our local industry.
The City's Industrial Commission is appointed by the Mayor and ratified by the council. It is made up of 11 members, all residents of Clay County, appointed in various groups for four-year terms.
The Mayor of Flora is an ex-officio member of the commission.
